Role Overview

Join us as a Lead Software Engineer, taking ownership of our product’s software engineering—from architecture and development through deployment and maintenance.

You will ensure optimal deployment and integration of our core technology, working in close collaboration with our CTO and Head of Biomechanics, AI, and Computer Vision. You will be the primary driver of our technical roadmap, making key decisions that shape the future of our platform, incl. overseeing compliance with regards to necessary privacy and security certifications.

This is a hands-on leadership position, ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic startup environment, combines technical vision with strong implementation skills. Over time, you will have the opportunity to shape, grow, and lead a high-performing engineering team, ensuring our technology scales alongside our ambitions.

What you’ll do

• API Development: Design and build robust and secure APIs that enable seamless use of our core technology across applications.
• Technical Enablement: Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure effective adoption and implementation of our product and technology.
• Backend Development: Maintain, optimize, and expand the backend codebase to support new features, improve performance, ensure scalability.
• Frontend Oversight: Oversee the technical aspects of frontend development efforts, coordinating with frontend contractors and future hires as needed to ensure quality, maintainability, and timely delivery.
• Platform Tracking and Maintenance: Implement processes for ongoing web app and platform upkeep, ensuring minimal downtime, and rapid resolution of technical issues.
• Deployment & DevOps Oversight: Manage the deployment of services to AWS, maintaining reliability, scalability, and security. While hands-on deployment skills are preferred, you will also coordinate and oversee work carried out by DevOps contractors when necessary.
• Privacy & Security Compliance: Lead technical initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant privacy regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR, and to achieve security certifications such as SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001, including implementing required safeguards and documentation processes.
• Build vs. Buy Decisions: Advise on which technical capabilities should be developed in-house versus outsourced, balancing quality, cost, and scalability.
• Team growth and Technical Leadership: Take on a leadership role within the organization, setting technical direction, mentoring future hires, and building the foundations for a high-performing engineering team.

Who you are

• Proven experience in backend development (Django preferred).
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining APIs (RESTful preferred).
• Strong understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and deployment processes (AWS preferred).
• Knowledge of privacy and security best practices, including familiarity with regulations such as HIPAA and GDPR.
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring software engineering teams, with the ambition and ability to grow into a senior technical leadership role in a scaling company.
